How We Test
Our methodology for evaluating tech products and creating recommendations you can trust.
Our Testing Philosophy
We believe the best product recommendations come from combining rigorous research with real-world performance data. Every guide we publish is backed by extensive category research, performance benchmarks, pricing analysis, and user feedback from verified owners.
We don't accept gifted products, sponsored placements, or payment for positive reviews. Our recommendations are based solely on merit, value, and real-world performance.
How We Score Products
Every product we recommend goes through a multi-factor evaluation process:
Performance & Specifications
We analyze technical specifications, third-party benchmarks from trusted sources like TechSpot, AnandTech, and RTINGS, and real-world performance data. We focus on the metrics that matter most for the category — frame rates for GPUs, response time for monitors, battery life for laptops.
Price-to-Performance Ratio
We track pricing history across major retailers, identify deal patterns, and evaluate whether the product delivers strong value at its current price point. We also flag when waiting for sales makes sense versus buying now.
Build Quality & Reliability
We research long-term reliability patterns, known issues, and warranty coverage. We read owner reports from high-signal forums, analyze return rates when publicly available, and flag products with known durability concerns.
Real-World Owner Feedback
We analyze verified owner reviews from Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, and enthusiast communities. We look for consistent praise or complaints across sources, and we weight feedback from users with similar use cases to our target buyer.
Keeping Recommendations Current
Tech moves fast. A top pick today might be outclassed in three months. We refresh our guides regularly to account for:
- New product launches in the category
- Significant price changes or deal availability
- Updated benchmarks or real-world performance data
- Emerging reliability issues or firmware updates that change our assessment
Every article displays a "Last updated" date so you know how recent the recommendations are.
Editorial Independence
We earn commission from qualifying purchases through Amazon Associates and other affiliate programs. This supports our research and keeps the site free for readers.
Our affiliate relationships never influence our recommendations. We recommend products based on their merit, performance, and value — not on commission rates. We only link to products we genuinely believe represent the best options in their category.
Read our full affiliate disclosure policy for more details.
What We Don't Do
- We don't accept payment or gifted products from brands in exchange for coverage or positive reviews
- We don't inflate product lists with mediocre options to drive more affiliate clicks
- We don't recommend products we haven't thoroughly researched
- We don't publish reviews based solely on manufacturer specs — we cross-reference with independent testing and owner feedback
