A Stream Deck is a small box of buttons, and each button is a tiny LCD screen. Press one and it switches an OBS scene, mutes your mic, fires a sound effect or opens a Zoom call. The screen on the key shows what it does, which is the whole trick.

Elgato has spent 2026 filling out the range. The Stream Deck + XL landed at $349.99 with 36 keys and six dials, and the regular Stream Deck + dropped to $179.99 on Elgato's own store. Amazon is under both right now. Logitech is the one serious rival, with the MX Creative Console aimed at editors rather than streamers.

So the question isn't really which brand. It's how many keys you'll actually use, and whether you want dials.

Elgato Stream Deck MK.2

This is the one to buy if you're not sure.

Fifteen keys in a 3 x 5 grid covers a normal streaming setup with room to spare: scene switching, mic mute, a BRB screen, a clip button, a couple of sound effects, and a key to start and stop the stream. And when you run out, folders and multiple pages let one key open a whole second layer of buttons.

It's 118 x 84 mm and weighs 145 g without the stand, so it fits beside a keyboard without shoving the mouse off the desk. The cable is USB-C at both ends and detachable, which older Stream Decks couldn't claim.

At $119.99 it's $30 under Elgato's list price. That's roughly what the Neo costs at full price, and you get nearly twice the keys.

Elgato Stream Deck +

The dials are the reason this exists.

If you stream, a lot of what you do mid-show is adjusting things: mic gain, game volume, music under your voice, a Key Light's brightness. Keys are bad at that. The Stream Deck + puts four 360-degree encoders under a 108 x 14 mm touch strip, and the strip shows the value you're changing as you turn. Push a dial and it can mute that channel.

It trades keys for those dials, though. You get eight LCD keys against the MK.2's fifteen. For a one-person stream with an Elgato Wave mic, that's a fair swap. For someone running a lot of scene and macro buttons, it isn't.

Elgato has cut the price to $179.99 on its store, and Amazon has it at $159.99. That's $40 more than the MK.2 for a different kind of control, not more of it.

Elgato Stream Deck XL

Thirty-two keys in a 4 x 8 grid. That's the pitch.

The XL is for people who bounce between apps all day: a streamer who is also editing in Premiere, a developer running build and deploy scripts, a podcaster triggering ten different clips. With this many keys you can lay everything out flat instead of burying it in folders, and muscle memory works better when a button is always in the same place.

It's 182 x 112 mm and 410 g without the stand. Not huge, but it's the size of a small book on your desk.

At $199.99 on Amazon, it's also $50 off. If you know you'll outgrow 15 keys, the step up from the MK.2 is $80 at today's prices.

Elgato Stream Deck Neo

Elgato pitches the Neo at office work, and it's honestly best there.

Eight keys handle a workday well: mute in Teams, join the next Zoom, open a few apps, launch a Spotify playlist. The small infobar between the keys shows the time or which page you're on, and the two touch points on either side flip pages. It runs the same Stream Deck app and plugins as everything else here.

For streaming, eight keys runs out quickly. That's where the MK.2 earns its $41 premium at today's prices.

But at $78.99, down from a $99.99 list, it's the easiest way to find out whether you'll use a Stream Deck at all.

Elgato Stream Deck + XL

This is the Stream Deck + and the XL in one chassis.

It has 36 keys, six 360-degree dials and a 161 x 14 mm touch strip over them. Elgato also pitches it at broadcast work, and it works with Bitfocus Companion and Buttons, the open tools small production teams use to run switchers and cameras. For a solo streamer that's overkill. For a church AV desk, a live podcast with guests or a small esports production, it replaces a pile of separate controllers.

It's a big, heavy unit at 1,085 g, and at $349.99 it hasn't been discounted on Amazon yet. Buying an XL and a Stream Deck + separately costs $359.98 at today's Amazon prices, so the + XL isn't a rip-off. It's just a lot of controller.

Logitech MX Creative Console

Buy this one if you edit more than you stream.

Logitech splits the MX Creative Console into two pieces. The keypad has nine LCD keys and plugs in over USB-C. The dialpad is separate and wireless, with a heavy aluminum dial, a scroll wheel and four buttons, and it runs on two AAA batteries that Logitech rates for up to 18 months. Set the dialpad next to your mouse and scrub a Premiere timeline or nudge a Lightroom exposure slider without looking.

Its software, Logi Options+, ships with ready-made profiles for Adobe's big apps, and the keypad changes pages on its own when you switch app. Elgato can do that too, but Logitech's editing profiles are more complete out of the box.

For streaming, Elgato's plugin library is much bigger. So this is an editing tool that can do some streaming, not the other way round.

How to Choose a Stream Deck

Count the buttons you'd press every day

Write down what you actually do in a session. Most solo streamers land between 8 and 15 regular actions, which is why the MK.2 is the default recommendation. If your list is past 20, skip straight to the XL rather than learning to love folders.

Decide whether you need dials

Dials matter if you adjust audio or lighting live. Keys can nudge volume up or down in steps, but a dial does it in one smooth motion and shows the level on the touch strip. If you use an Elgato Wave mic or Wave Link to mix, the Stream Deck + is built around that.

Try the free version first

Elgato's Stream Deck Mobile app turns a phone or tablet into a Stream Deck, with six keys free and up to 64 keys on a subscription. It's a decent way to learn what you'd put on the buttons before paying for hardware. The catch is that a touchscreen has no physical feedback, so you'll look down more often.

Check the plugin, not the promise

Stream Deck works with OBS, Streamlabs, Twitch, YouTube, Discord, Spotify and a long list of other apps through plugins in the Elgato Marketplace. Before you buy, search the Marketplace for the specific apps you use. If there's no plugin, a key can still send a keyboard shortcut or open a file, which covers more than you'd think.

Don't overbuy for work use
